This policy explains what personal information Mylie collects when you use mylie.co.uk, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We keep it in plain English because we think you deserve to understand what happens to your data.
Who we are
Mylie (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs the website at mylie.co.uk, providing guidance, checklists and digital planners for parents in the early years.
For anything to do with your data, contact us at hello@mylie.co.uk.
We are the “data controller” for the information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used. We are based in the United Kingdom, and this policy is governed by UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
The information we collect
Information you give us
- Email sign-ups. When you request the free newborn checklist or subscribe to the Sunday newsletter, we collect your first name and email address.
- Purchases. When you buy the First 12 Weeks Planner (£14.99), you provide your name, email and payment details. Payment is handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details.
- Messages. If you email us or use a contact form, we keep the information you send, such as your name, email and the content of your message.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage and device data. When you visit the site, we and our providers collect standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed and how you found us. Most of this comes through cookies and Google Analytics.
We do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as health information) about you or your child. Please do not send us sensitive personal details by email.
How we use your information, and our legal bases
Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your data. Here is what we do and why:
- Send the free checklist and newsletter – to deliver the content you asked for (consent).
- Fulfil and support your planner purchase – to provide the product you paid for (performance of a contract).
- Respond to your messages – to help with your enquiry (legitimate interests).
- Measure and improve the website with analytics – to understand what is useful and fix what isn’t (consent, via cookie choices).
- Keep records for tax and accounting – to meet our legal obligations (legal obligation).
- Protect the site against fraud and abuse – to keep the service secure (legitimate interests).
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
Marketing emails
If you sign up for the checklist or newsletter, we will email you the content you requested plus occasional related guidance, recommendations and updates.
Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time by clicking it or emailing hello@mylie.co.uk. We use a third-party email marketing provider to manage sign-ups and send our emails; your name and email are stored on that platform for this purpose.
Cookies and analytics
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:
- Essential cookies that make the site work. These do not need your consent.
- Analytics cookies through Google Analytics, which help us understand how people use the site. These run only where you have given consent, and you can change your choice at any time through your browser controls.
Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, time on site and approximate location. You can read how Google handles this data in Google’s privacy policy, and you can opt out using Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with trusted providers who help us run Mylie, and only as far as they need it:
- Stripe to process payments securely.
- Our email marketing provider to store subscriber details and send emails.
- Google Analytics to measure website usage.
- Our website host and technical providers to keep the site running.
Each of these acts under contract and is required to protect your data. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. If you follow links to our social media, the relevant platform’s own privacy policy applies.
International transfers
Some of our providers, including Stripe and Google, are based outside the UK, so your data may be transferred and stored abroad. Where that happens, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, so that your data stays protected.
How long we keep your information
- Newsletter and checklist subscribers: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
- Purchase and transaction records: for at least six years, to meet UK tax and accounting requirements.
- Enquiry emails: for as long as needed to deal with your query and a reasonable period afterwards.
When we no longer need your data, we delete or anonymise it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it.
To exercise any of these, email hello@mylie.co.uk. We will respond within one month, and there is normally no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or call 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to sort it out first, so please do get in touch with us.
Children’s privacy
Mylie is aimed at parents and carers, who are adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. The content concerns babies and young children, but the account holders and subscribers are the adults using our service.
Keeping your data secure
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, and we work only with providers who do the same. No online service can be completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to guard against loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top, and significant changes will be made clear on this page.
